The critics range from calling it a place filler - between the first and third films in the trilogy - and calling it a masterpiece. All we know is that The Hobbit was a fantastic story when we were 10, and Director Jackson tells it well. Plus, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Khan on the new Star Trek movie) does the voice for Smaug. And that's good enough reason to check it out by itself.
