Djembe Drum Class: Monday, September 16, 2013

Did you know that Atlanta is home to some masters of west African drumming? These are folks who spent years and years in that part of the world, learning the craft. And, they've brought it back to Atlanta, and wanna teach it! How. Lucky. Are. We?! I've been to one of their performances. Primal and raw and soulful and energy and love. They remind you that you have a soul, and it wants to move. So, learn to play the drums today. The classes are kid friendly. So, grab your favorite son, daughter, niece, nephew, or just some kid you know, and head on over! It's held by DrumRise, and it's at 7:00 - 8:15 Monday night at Leafmore Clubhouse in Decatur. Note that you have to sign up at, and that you have to let them know you are doing a drop-in class and that you need them to bring you a drum. ($20 per person for drop in. $75 for 5 classes).Starts at 7:00 PM

Omelette at Home

We have a strong tradition of omelet making here at Here's What You Do. You really should teach yourself how to make a great omelette. It's one of life's essential skills. Did you know chefs in France have competititions to see who can make the best. Serious foodies have their own omelette pans. They wipe them out after each use with butter or oil to season them, and they never ever cook anything in them other than omelettes. This is serious stuff. Now, I could mess around and try to give you directions myself. But, why do that when you have Julia Child? Check out her 13-page, remarkably detailed instructions. Complete with diagrams, you're good to go. It get's a little tricky with the flipping part, but keep trying. You'll get it.

Girl with a Pearl Earring at High Museum of Art

Time for an afternoon sleep...

Health matters.

Manchego Mac & Cheese at Iberian Pig

Sometimes, a bourbon and some mac & cheese is just the ticket. Try an Ephram Craig and the manchego mac & cheese at the Iberian pig. Best had when sitting at the bar. A perfect happy hour.

Beer-braised Mussels at Murphys

Summer is about seafood, right? Murphy's does it right with their mussels. Beer braised mussels with pine street bacon, fingerling potatoes, and smoked orange, that is. It's the first course in a summer time feast. Have Murphy's famous mango chicken salad as an entree and pair with some pinot noir. A wonderful way to close out the night.
