HWYD Consumer - Welcome to Here's What You Do (Consumer)!

Hey There!  We're Steve and Andrea.

A while back, we did a post on iPads on our sister blog, Here's What You Do (Atlanta).   Which iPad is best?  What are the important features to look for?  How much should you pay?  What are the current best deals?  That sort of thing.

Well, it was a hit!  Apparently, there's a lot of interest out there in simple and logical approaches to buying things.  Enter Here's What You Do (Consumer).  HWYD (Consumer) is going to bring you a step-by-step approach to buying things.   Electronics, appliances, music, cars, clothing, home goods.  If it's something you need to take the time to think about buying, we hope to provide some answers.

In HWYD (Consumer), we are going to tackle questions like:

• What is the best dishwasher to buy?
• What should I be looking for when I buy new tires?
• What's the best way to get the kids ready to go back to school at the end of the summer?
• Should I lease a car?
• What's the best way to introduce Timmy to model trains?
• Should I get flight insurance?

Use all the Information that's out there, with a healthy Grain of Salt.

Now, there's a ton of stuff out there on the internet for the researching consumer.  Top ten lists, reviews from irate buyers, manufacturer's claims.  Whatever you want.  But, if you're like us, you end up more confused than when you started.

HWYD (Consumer) is going to help you to make sense of it all, and hopefully pull as much value out of all of those sites as possible.  We'll do so with some good 'ol math & statistics.  By carefully examining all the information out there, putting more stock in proven and tested reviewing organizations like Consumer Reports, and taking irate reviews with a grain of salt, HWYD (Consumer) will bring you a balanced recommendation.  What's more, we'll tell you all the risk factors, so at least you can go into your purchase with your eyes open.

We're not gonna stop at internet research my friends.  Oh no.  We'll push forward and make the purchase we recommend.  We'll test the caveats, and see if the internet is telling us the truth.  We figure that we aren't done with our research until we walk a mile in, umm, OUR shoes.
